Washington—The deliberations of
an international conference on “Enabling a New Generation for Democracy” started
the day before yesterday. It was organized by the Center for Civic Education in
the Education Secretariat in the United States of America and will last for
several days. Students from 28 countries including Jordan participated in the
conference, which aimed at preparing students to face international challenges
in a way that serves administrative decisions in the context of the constitution
and administrative instructions in the country.
The head of the Jordanian
delegation, Dr. Sabah al-Nawayseh, Director of the Education Department in Al-Kaser
province, said that the participation of Jordan in the conference aimed at
helping students to acquire more citizenship concepts, cultural communication
between nations, democracy, and justice. It also helped them to build
foundations and frameworks for dealing with social problems such as smoking and
violence inside schools. The Jordanian delegation, comprised of 7 students from
the Education Department in Al-Kaser province, presented to the conference an
explanation about Jordan and the nature of its habits and traditions.
It must be mentioned that the participants were
selected on the basis that that they had completed projects that contributed to
serving the local community, such as projects dealing with problems of violence
in schools and traffic problems and dealing with them with the participation of
decision makers in democratic ways.
